Backyard fun

Meg loves playing outside.  It’s only June and its already been too hot outside, so we decided to her her a small kiddie pool for the backyard.  She was super excited about it.  We bought the pool from Target after dinner one night, came home and blew it up for her.  We started filling it, but had to stop about half way because it was getting late.  

 

The next day, we filled it the rest of the way.  I had a few water toys hidden in a closet and threw them out there for her to play with.  She spent a few hours in her pool, playing, splashing, floating and “swimming”. 

Dixie loves the water, so she was super excited to have this too.  She won’t get in (not sure why), but she loves when Meg shoots her with the water hose or splashes her.  Hopefully this will last us the summer.  Meg has really been having lots of fun with it. 

June in SA

Meg and I headed to San Antonio for a quick visit with the family.  We drove down on Wednesday night and came home Sunday. 

Thursday, we went to see mom’s new office and meet a few of her co-workers.  Then, we met Taylor for lunch at Longhorn for the best burgers in the world!  Poppy, Megan and I then headed to the grocery store and home for the afternoon.  That night, Ruth and the boys came over for dinner.  Luke is getting so big, it’s hard to believe how fast time is going by! 

Megan brought her old tricycle and scooter down to my parents to give to Luke.  He loved, loved, loved them.  Of course, he’s not big enough to reach the pedals yet, so Taylor and Poppy took turns pushing him around on them.  

 

Friday, Poppy, Megan and I offered to keep Luke for the day.  I forgot how much energy is required to chase a 13 month old around.  Luke is into everything.  He’s a climber (which I have NO experience with) and always moving.  He doesn’t like being told no.  He has this super cute little temper when he gets mad. 

After lunch on Friday, Poppy, Meg and Luke got in the pool.  Meg has become such a strong swimmer.  I love watching her dive for dive sticks and jump off the hot tub into the pool.  She would spend all of her waking hours in the pool if we’d let her.  

Friday night, Taylor and Ruth came over for dinner and to hang out.  It’s was a perfect night.  We swam a little, then picked up Beefys. 

Saturday, Sheryl came into town (I didn’t get one picture of Sheryl – boo).  Meg, Sheryl and I did a little shopping at Target that morning, then came back and laid pool side all day.  We went out around 12:30 and didn’t come in until about 6:00.  Meg stay in the pool most of the time – except when she was eating. 

 

Aunt Sheryl caught a dragon fly and Meg was so excited about her new found friend.  He survived until she decided to take him swimming. 

 

Taylor, Ruth and Luke came over in the afternoon and enjoyed some sun too.  Luke went down for a nap as soon as they got there, but was so excited to come swimming after he woke up.   Meg loves Luke so much. I love watching how their relationship grows each time they see each other.  We are spending five days at the coast in July and I can’t want to see their bond grow even stronger.

Saturday night, the Middletons came over for dinner.  The adults sat around the pool while the kiddos swam for a few hours.  I didn’t even get my camera out :( 

We hated to say good-bye Sunday morning, but both Meg and I were starting to get a little home sick. 

Remember when…

…you were a child and couldn’t wait for the first warm day of the swim season? 

Just the thought of a warm enough day to allow you to go for a dip? 

The day didn’t even have to be  THAT warm, but just warm enough.    

I remember dipping my toes in and thinking, it’s not that cold…

…it’s warm enough.

Today, was one of those days for Megan…

…she thought Meme & Poppy’s pool was warm enough for a swim. 

I decided to let her put on a swim suit and give it a try…

SA Trip Part 1

Meg had a weekend off for soccer, so she and I decided to make a quick weekend trip to San Antonio. Things are definitely different now that Meg is in kindergarten and we can just take random 3-day weekend trips to visit Meme & Poppy.

I picked Meg up early from school on Friday and we got to SA just in time for a quick swim and dinner. (I didn't swim, only Meg was brave enough).

One of Meg's favorite things to do while we are in San Antonio is to swim. This girl can swim for hours and hours on end. We have to make her get out of the pool. She's doing so awesome at swimming and finally figured out that she'll go faster if she puts her head in the water.

Lake weekend

Friday night, Jarrad and I loaded Megan and Dixie up in the truck and headed out to the lake house after dinner with the Ramsey's to celebrate Nick's birthday.

Meg was so excited, she kept talking about fishing. About 30 minutes into the drive, I turned back to check on her and she was out like a light.
Of course, the little cat nap in the truck was just what she needed for some late night fishing. We arrived at the lake house around 11:30. By the time we unpacked and headed to the dock for some fishing it was midnight. Unfortunately, we didn't have any luck with the fish on Friday night. We finally climbed into bed around 1:45. Of course, Meg was so wired that she wouldn't stop talking or lay still. Finally, after about 30 minutes, she stayed still long enough for her to fall asleep.

The next morning, Meg didn't get up until 10:00. After a quick breakfast, we changed into our swimsuits and headed to the dock for a morning swim. Jarrad was a wimp and wouldn't get in because it was too cold for him. The water actually felt GREAT.

After our morning swim, we headed to Lunch at the Rockin S. When we got back from lunch, Jarrad finally joined us in the water. He still complained that there were a few cold spots.

Dixie wanted us to play fetch with her while we were floating around. She kept dropping her ball on the side of the dock, then would nudge it in with her nose. It was annoying and adorable all at the same time.

We had such a great time. Looking forward to more weekends at the lake house :)

Swimming at Meme and Poppy's

While Meg and I were in San Antonio, we jumped in the pool. It was a little chilly at first, but was quite refreshing after I got used to it. Of course, Meg jumped right in and told me I was silly for thinking it was cold.

I remember as a kid swimming at my neighbor's house. As long as the water temp was above 78, we would swim and swim and swim. As an adult, I'd prefer the temperature of a pool to be around 90. I wonder when the change occurred.

Here are a few pictures of Meg while we were swimming. I still love my camera and can't believe I survived without it for so long.

SA Part 3

Saturday was a good day. Taylor, Ruth & I went over to the Shinn's early that morning for breakfast and to visit. After breakfast, we headed back to meme and poppy's house. As soon as we got there, Meg was ready to go swimming...so, we put on our suits and headed for the pool.

Meg and I had the pool to ourselves for about 30-minutes. We had so much fun. Below is a video of her going off the slide. She counts to 7 in one video, then to 9 in the next...not sure why ;) The adorable little dog you see barking and bouncing in and out of the frame is Big Unk and Auntie Ruthie's dog Parker.

That night, the Middletons came back over for dinner and to swim. After the kids swam, we let them light sparklers. They had an absolute blast. We didn't have any accidents - I had a fear that Meg would try to grab the pretty light, but she didn't. Big Unk did a good job explaining to them the dangers of touching it.

I'm so thankful we were able to spend so much time with the Middletons. I really miss them like crazy!
