It’s finally over

We’ve finally taken the last dose of medicine for Meg’s ear infection.  Every dose was a challenge to get down.  20 doses in 10 days was not fun.

I just don’t understand why someone can’t make medicine taste good.  I mean someone invented baby shampoo that won’t sting, why not medicine that tastes like cupcakes?

Hmmmm….maybe I’m on to something.  (If only I didn’t hate science).

These pictures pretty much show you the struggle every time.  I would measure it out, she would tell me she needed water.  I would get her water, she would ask me to count to a random number (13, 29, 40, etc.).  I would count to the random number, she would have to go to the bathroom.  Finally, I would lose all patience and give her my “you have two choices speech.”

Which goes like this:

Mommy:  Meg, you have two choices.  They may not be choices you like, but you do have a choice.  You can take your medicine like a big girl, or I can hold you down and pour it down your throat.

Meg:  I’ll take it like a big girl.

I love my “two choices” way of forcing Megan to make a decision.  It works every time.  I’ve even heard her telling her imaginary puppy the “two choices” speech.

Still snowing!

It snowed all day on Thursday.  Thankfully there wasn’t any ice along with it.  My mom was driving in from San Antonio, so was on the road with all the snow.  My dad was supposed to go to St. Louis, but it was cancelled because of the snow.  Lucky for me, I’m an executive assistant so I knew exactly who to call to get him from Love Field to my house in Mansfield.  He arrived on Thursday night late, with out his bags (that’s a whole other story).

On Friday morning when we woke up, it was still snowing.  Meg had been up most of the night feeling like poo, so I made the decision to try to get her into the doctor’s office.  That morning, I called her pediatrician's office to schedule an appointment, only to get a message that they were closed for the morning and would hopefully open up that afternoon.

I had a feeling that Meg had strep.  She’s hadIMG_7169 copy it so many times in the past year that I figured my diagnosis was as good as any.  But I still decided to take her up to Urgent Care.  I was shocked that Meg didn’t have strep, just pharyngitis and an ear infection.

We filled her prescription, killed a little time by having a quick lunch, picked up her prescription, then headed home.  As soon as we got home, she asked me to start her a movie, make her a nest and get her some orange juice.  I started her movie and within 10 minutes, she was sleeping.

Thankfully, after we got a few doses of antibiotics in her, she was back to her normal self.

Poppy decided to measure the snow fall that we had in our backyard.  We got 8.5 inches.  It was so beautiful!  IMG_1181 copy IMG_1184 copy

I love how quiet the snow made everything.  And the nights were so beautiful.  IMG_1185 copy      IMG_1196 copy IMG_1198 copy

I was sad when it all started melting away, but am so glad that we had a few days with a record breaking snow :)

My poor baby!

Meme and Poppy's visit must have worn Megan out. Tuesday morning when I woke her up, she was running a 100 degree fever. She looked so pathetic. Poppy said she had been up four times that night. Isn't he so wonderful, he tended to Meg and didn't even wake me up. Meg has such a wonderful relationship with Poppy!

I tried to convince Meg that it would be ok to stay home for a little while, but she insisted on going to school. So, off she went. I did walk her into her class and tell the teacher. Mrs. Kelly said that she would call me if anything happened. By the time I picked Meg up from school, she was back to her normal self. Fever free and running around like a crazy kid.

All before ten o'clock in the morning!

Friday night, we had rehearsal dinner for Nick & Michelle (as I mentioned before). All night, Meg kept telling everyone that her ears hurt. Not inside her ears...her actual ears. It wasn't like she just complained once, it was numerous times. I didn't think much about it that night. We got home from rehearsal and Meg went to bed around 9:30.

I stayed up watching TV in the living room. Around 11:45, I heard her bedroom door open. Sure enough, she walks out and is crying. When I asked her what was wrong, she told me "I don't know". I told her that I couldn't help her if she didn't tell me what was wrong. She still didn't know. So, I told her that she could lay with me on the couch for a while. As soon as she was laying down, she was out.

I went to bed around 12:45. As soon as I was crawling in bed, I heard a few whimpers from the living room (I decided to leave her on the couch instead of moving her to her bed). By the time I got out to the living room, she was sleeping again.

Around 1:30, she woke up crying again. This time I decided to let her into our bed with us. It was so strange. She wasn't running a fever and didn't feel bad...but, looking back, she was super sensitive on Friday. Every little thing would send her into a whine fest. She slept from about 1:30 to 4:30 before she woke up again. She was up for about 5 minutes before she was asleep again.

When we woke up on Saturday morning, I knew I had to take her to the doctor. I didn't want to, but I had a feeling that she was developing an ear infection. Seeing as she was supposed to be a flower girl in N&M's wedding that evening, I wanted to make sure everything was OK.

Turns out, I wasn't completely wrong about the ear infection. She had a small ear infection developing in her right ear...the complete shocker was that Meg had Strep Throat. Yes, STREP THROAT - again. So, I immediately thought about how heart broken she was going to be if we weren't able to go to the wedding...luckily, the doctor said that it was OK if she went, but that she couldn't kiss anyone or let anyone drink after her.

After her appointment, we grabbed a quick bite to eat, then headed to Sweet & Sassy...more to come.

Another visit to Urgent Care

yes, we had to go to Urgent care again! This makes our 7th trip in 8 weeks. I wrote about our other visits here.

Meg spent the night with Boompaw and Nawnaw on Thursday night after we had spent the day at the zoo with Nawnaw. I met Nawnaw at the car wash in Irving to do the "swap" and when Meg walked up, I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

My poor little girl's eye was almost swollen shut. She has allergies and when they flare up, they settle in her eyes. Never, has it been this bad, so I was a little concerned. I immediately called the doctor's office to see if he could see her. He was on vacation for Spring Break, so they only appt available was 3:45 with the nurse practitioner. I didn't want to wait that long, so we headed down to Mansfield and went to Urgent Care.

We called ahead and arrived around 12:15. They finally called us back around 12:30 and we were able to see the doctor. I explained to the doctor that Meg and I had been at the park earlier in the week and she was throwing wood chips in the air. I was thinking that something may have fallen in her eyes. The doctor looked in her eyes, nose and throat. She ran a strep test on her throat (negative) and a dye test in Meg's eyes.

The dye test was so weird. In the room, her eye appeared orange. When the lights were turned off and the eye light was turned on, it glowed yellow. The doctor didn't find anything in Meg's eye. She flushed both of her eyes out with a saline wash, prescribed Meg an antibiotic and eye drops and sent us on our way.

If I step in it again..

...I'll scream...Urgent Care Mansfield, that is!!!

Today, Meg and I made another visit to the Urgent Care doctor office. This is our fourth trip in 6 weeks. Let me break it down for you.

  • First visit - Jan 26. Meg is diagnosed with strep
  • Second visit - Feb 17. Meg is diagnosed with the flu
  • Third visit - Feb 23. Mommy is diagnosed with the flu AND strep AND an ear infection
  • Fourth visit - March 2 (today). Story below.

Today was a trip to look at Meg's hand. A few weekends back (Valentine's night to be exact), Meg spent the night with her grandparents. She loves spending the night with them. We met up with them on Sunday for a dinner, and to pick up Meg. Immediately, I noticed what appeared to be a tiny cluster of ant bites on her left hand. When I asked her about it, she said they were ant bites.

As the "ant bites" started to clear up, it turned into this. Well, keep in mind that she got the flu, then I got sick, so this fell off my plate of things to worry about. After looking at it again on Friday, I decided it was time to go to the doctor.

As it turns out, Meg has ringworm. Yes, ringworm. It is usually contracted from an animal. So, we don't know where it came from or who gave it to her, but she has it. The doctor gave Meg a prescription for a cream that I have to put on twice a day until it clears up (could be 3 days, could be 3 weeks, could be 3 months). And, she also told me that I have to bathe the dogs with an anti-fungal shampoo.

Fingers crossed that this is the end of the doctor visits! I don't want to step in the Urgent Care Mansfield again!

No more flu shots for Meg! EVER!!!

Poor Meg, she has had a rough week. Saturday, she spent the night with Boompaw and Nawaw. Then, we met them for dinner on Sunday to get her back. She was overly tired when we got home, which is usually the case with her after she spends time at Boompaw and Nawnaw's house.

Monday, her day care was closed for teacher in service, so she stayed home with me. Hailey came over to play for a while, then we went to lunch with Hailey, Jessica, and Haiden.

When we got home, Meg's friends were outside playing. She asked if she could play and I told her no. She needed to come in and lay down. She didn't even argue. That should have been a red flag. When she woke up from her nap, she was running a low grade fever, but I decided to let her go to swimming anyway.

On Tuesday morning, I let her sleep in before I took her to school. I dropped her off around 9:30 and the school called at 11:00 to tell me that she was running a 102.7 fever. I don't guess I'll be mother of the year for sending my baby girl to school with a fever...but, when I took her she wasn't running a fever.

I picked her up and we went to urgent care. A few hours later, we were able to see the doctor and turns out my child has the flu. Yes, the dang flu! We are on house arrest until Sunday.

Tuesday was a pretty bad day. After we went to Walgreens, Meg laid on the couch all day curled up under a blanket watching movies and dozing in and out of sleep. While we were at Walgreens, Meg picked out some press on nails. Of course, when we got home she had to put them on. Below are some pictures of her sleeping in her new nails. I had to get the below pictures because of the way she is hold her hands. I love how she's holding her hands up so she doesn't "ruin" her nails. too cute!
