My baby is FIVE

Five? Is my baby really already five? How have five years already gone by? If only time would slow down, it's going by too fast.

I feel like it was just yesterday that we welcomed Megan into the world. She was born at 12:45am (after 27 hours of labor) and weighed 7lbs 11.5 oz and was 19.5 inches long. She had a beautiful head of brown hair that the nurse put in a mohawk. It was adorable.

I remember the first few months, just letting her lay in my lap and watch her sleep. Meg was such a GREAT baby. By the time we came home from the hospital, she was sleeping six hours a night and was on a pretty good schedule.

Before I knew it, my baby turned one. She was into so much at one. She was walking, climbing, running, getting into anything and everything she could get her hands on.

At two, she was the sweetest thing in the world. We never had the "terrible twos" thank goodness. She a was kind, sweet, loving and caring toddler who had never met a stranger.

At three, my child became someone else's child. She became head strong, defiant, and a temper-tantrum throwing queen. She still had her moments of being sweet and loving, but only when it served a purpose.

At four, Meg turned a corner. She was sweet again, with very little tantrums, although she started whining and whining and whining.

This morning, she turned FIVE. I still can't believe it's already been five years. She seems so grown up. She's in kindergarten (hopefully her year will be better than her first week was). She's totally into HSM, her iPod shuffle, playing with her friends and being a girly girl. I can't wait to see what this year holds for us.
I'm going to go eat lunch with her at her school. She knows I'm coming, but doesn't know I'm going to bring her a happy meal :) She'll be so excited.

We celebrated Meg's birthday this past weekend, I will do another post about the celebration!

Is this a preview...

Meg usually LOVES swimming lessons. She always can't wait to see her teacher and classmates. Last night was no exception...until about half way thru the lessons. Meg is in the class with three other 4-year olds (all of the kids in her class were born in the summer of 04 - Meg is the youngest, and all of them are only children). So, about 10 minutes into the lessons, one of the little boys got up from his seat and ran over to kiss his mommy...well, you can guess what happened. That's right, the other three decided to follow his lead. I have a strict rule that if you get up from your spot that we leave...last night was no exception. So, as Meg was getting up from her seat to come give me a kiss, I told her that if she did, we were leaving. She stood there, arms crossed like an Indian chief, really weighing her options. She stood there for what seemed like ages, so I finally gave her the choice of sitting back down or leaving. She chose to come over to me and get dressed.

So, on our way home, I got to thinking - is this what FOUR is going to be like. All of a sudden, she's turned into a brat - screaming if she doesn't get her way, stomping her feet, etc. So, I ask...

IS THIS A PREVIEW OF WHAT FOUR IS GOING TO BE LIKE?!?

Leave me alone...

Meg's new catch phrase for anything and everything. We're sitting outside on the patio tonight and she keeps going in and out and in and out. Every time she goes in, she's empty handed...every time she comes out, she has more stuff. She's packing up her hummer because she's going to SA (according to her). I just told her, Meg, "Stop bringing stuff outside"...her response...

"LEAVE ME ALONE, I'M GOING TO SA."

It probably reads sweeter than it sounds when it comes out of a three year old's mouth! She says it with a certain tone and it just completely gets under my skin. Short term goal for self: Take the phrase "Leave me alone" out of Meg's vocabulary!

It's such a beautiful night out tonight, a little on the chilly side for me, but still beautiful. I'm thankful that I got a new battery for my laptop...it's allowing me to blog from outside (instead of inside "plugged-in"). So, I'm working on my blog (and some digital scrapbook pages) while Megan plays in her hummer. Jarrad is inside watching "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader".

It should be called the TERRIBLE threes!

I never really had a case of the terrible twos with Megan. I was always thankful that she was a sweet little girl. Tonight I saw a side of Meg that I have never seen before! Her and I had to stop at Target on the way home for a few small items. She was really good in the parking lot and was sweet at first. Before we got to Target, she asked me if we could get her some more gum. I told her as long as she was a good girl, that wasn't a problem. So, she was sitting in the front of the shopping basket and kept standing up. I told her if she stood up one more time, that she was going to have to sit in the kid seat of the buggy. Just to test me, she lifted her bottom off the basket. I immediately picked her up and put her in the kid seat. She screamed and screamed and screamed. I had more than one mother tell me..."I remember those days". She wasn't getting her way, so she kept screaming and then she hit me. I took her gum away and put it back on the shelf. We left target...a very unhappy, gum less Megan. I've decided that we give in too much and I'm not going to tolerate this behavior any more!

I still love her to death, but boy is this going to be a challenge - her and I are so much alike that I have a feeling this is definitely not the last time that we will butt heads!
