Luke Wray Jordan

We welcomed Luke Wray Jordan into this world on May 4, 2009. He weighed in at 9lbs 4oz and was 21 1/4 inches. Such a big boy!!!

***My sweet nephew, Luke***

While we were visiting, Meg was upset because we had to wear the smocks while visiting, so she was hiding behind the curtain. I also think it was the realization that she is no longer the only "baby" in the family.

***Holding my nephew for the first time***

***I love you, Luke***

Baby chicken

A few weeks back, we were up at Tractor Supply (can't remember why, but I am sure that it wasn't my idea). As Meg and I were wandering thru the store, we stumbled upon three troughs of baby chickens. Meg wasn't interested in holding one, she was happy just peering over the side of the trough and watching. About the time we're getting ready to go find daddy, a TS employee asks her if she'd like to hold one. At first, she was hesitant, but reluctantly agreed. I don't think she regrets accepting the offer. She was smiling from ear to ear.

Waiting to meet Luke!!!

Meg and I went to SA the first weekend of May because my brother and his wife were expecting their first child and we wanted to be there to help welcome him into the world.

We got up first thing on Saturday morning and drove down to SA. Saturday night, Taylor & Ruth came over for dinner. Poor Ruth, she was starting to get miserably uncomfortable. After all, she was 3 days past her due date.

Sunday evening, Meg and I were at dinner with Meme and Poppy when we got "the call". Ruth and Taylor had set out for a walk Sunday night and her water broke. We were all so excited, so we rushed to the hospital to meet with the expecting parents. It was a long night. We arrived at the hospital around 9:30pm. Ruth was getting checked in when we arrived, then was moved to a L&D room.

We set up camp in the family waiting room and hunkered down for a long night. Luckily, on our way to the hospital from dinner, we had time to pick Meg up some coloring books and other stuff to keep her occupied. We also ran to the house to pick up the portable DVD player.

Right after Ruth was admitted to L&D, I took Meg back to see Auntie Ruthie and Big Unk. Meg asked about everything in the room from the monitors, to the white board, to the baby warmer thingy. We only visited for about 10 minutes, because Ruth needed her rest for the long night ahead of her!

Around 11:30 that night, I decided that Meg was too over stimulated, so we headed downstairs to find a quiet corner where I convinced her to lay down. It didn't take five minutes for her to fall asleep. She slept until about 7:30am that morning. I'm so thankful my daughter isn't a light sleeper - that girl can sleep thru anything.

The next morning, while we were still waiting to hear about Luke's arrival, we used Megan and a family friend's little girl as entertainment. We played the quiet game (which, lasted longer than any of us would have expected), then this fun game that Jeff came up with...the girls are holding cup lids on the wall with their noses. It was very entertaining!!!

Shortly after the nose game, we heard the baby chimes and shouted for joy. Luke arrived on Monday, May 4th 2009 at 9:45am...more details to follow in another post!

Why...

...would my child let her friends color on her face?!? Meg came home after playing with her friends one night looking like this. It shocked me that she willingly let her friends do this to her. Although, she is the youngest of all of her friends, so I'm sure it didn't take much convincing.

April Showers

***WARNING - COMPLETE PICTURE OVERLOAD***
This week, we had a few rainy days. On Wednesday, we had a small break in the rain, so Meg asked if she could go swing on her play set. I didn't see why not, so out she went (with a dish towel to dry off her swing). After about 10 minutes, I suddenly hear what can only be explained as hard, hard rain. I peak out of my office window and sure enough, it's pouring down outside. I run to the patio to check on Meg and she is up on the covered porch, trying to stay dry from the rain.
I could see that she was disappointed because she didn't get to play outside very long. So, I ask her "do you want to play in the rain?" I'm not even sure she responded - she just ran into the rain screaming and giggling. She had a blast and was soaked from head to toe.
There is something special about...
***little girl feet splashing in a rain puddle***
***the innocent joy of something that I (as an adult) take for granted***
***an upset little girl, when there was a small break in the rain***
***the victorious cheer when it started up again***
***sitting in the water pouring out of the drain spout***
***giggling after her shorts are soaking wet***
***not caring that her clothes are soaked and sticking to her***
***deciding to "wash" her hair in the down spout out pouring***
***jumping for joy with a carefree attitude***
***splashing in the puddles on the patio***
***resting***
***catching water***
***and then washing her face***
***so refreshing***
***watching the water fill up her small hands***
Meg - I hope you find as much joy in life as you do in the small things!

Old news!

man...I've been looking thru my April pics and realized I'm VERY behind on posting!!!

While mom and dad were in town (first weekend of April) the girls went to get pedicures while Jarrad and Poppy worked. Actually, I got my nails done while Meme and Meg got pedicures. Meg is an old pro it seems. Megan totally loves to be pampered. I can't imagine what we'll do with her when she's a teenager.
