Meg's new man

Yes, she's in love with Spiderman. Toys-R-Us has this "ride" conveniently located at the cash registers. While I was checking out, Meg crawled up into the car with Spidey (as she calls him). After I completed my transaction, I overheard her say...

"Bye my husband, I will talk to you later.

I love you!"

Is this a preview...

Meg usually LOVES swimming lessons. She always can't wait to see her teacher and classmates. Last night was no exception...until about half way thru the lessons. Meg is in the class with three other 4-year olds (all of the kids in her class were born in the summer of 04 - Meg is the youngest, and all of them are only children). So, about 10 minutes into the lessons, one of the little boys got up from his seat and ran over to kiss his mommy...well, you can guess what happened. That's right, the other three decided to follow his lead. I have a strict rule that if you get up from your spot that we leave...last night was no exception. So, as Meg was getting up from her seat to come give me a kiss, I told her that if she did, we were leaving. She stood there, arms crossed like an Indian chief, really weighing her options. She stood there for what seemed like ages, so I finally gave her the choice of sitting back down or leaving. She chose to come over to me and get dressed.

So, on our way home, I got to thinking - is this what FOUR is going to be like. All of a sudden, she's turned into a brat - screaming if she doesn't get her way, stomping her feet, etc. So, I ask...

IS THIS A PREVIEW OF WHAT FOUR IS GOING TO BE LIKE?!?
IN MY BEST FOUR YEAR OLD TEMPER TANTRUM VOICE!!!

Saturday shower

Last Saturday, we had a wedding shower for my step-SIL, Stacy. Meg a good girl...for the most part. She did get a little crank because of the food situation. The only thing she could eat while we were there were strawberries, everything else had nuts in it...even the desserts!

I don't know why, but when I saw the two pictures below, I was shocked. When did my precious little toddler turn into a girl? She looks so old in these pictures. Of course, I know she's still a three year old (the tantrums that she has started throwing are proof of that), but I didn't realize how quick she was growing up. She turns 4 next month...where has the time gone?!?

I know, I know...

...I've been MIA for the past week or so.

Life has been so busy. I just haven't been able to find time to post. And, honestly - I've hit a plateau...I don't have anything interesting or fun to write about. Of course, I can always write about Meg, but then she might go bragging to her friends that my life is completely consumed by her life and then the neighborhood will start talking...we don't want that.

Last weekend we were so busy! Meg had two birthday parties on Saturday. The first one was for a girl in Meg's swimming lessons. She had an absolute blast. The mom hired in a face painter...Meg thought this was the coolest thing ever. I have to admit that I was very impressed. It took the face painter less than 5 minutes to create this masterpiece. One thing that impressed me the most was the fact that the kids would sit still without budging while he did it.

Saturday night, we headed over to Suzanne's house for Tanner's 2nd b-day party. I still can't believe Tanner is 2. Time is going by so fast. Meg had a blast at Tanner's party. We got Tanner a cute little grocery cart complete with 60 pieces of plastic food. The GREAT news about the shopping cart was that it came complete with a squeaky wheel. All night, we could hear the squeak, squeak, squeak of the cart being pushed around. Suzanne was thrilled.

We're leaving next week for a family vacation at the lake. I can't wait. Of course, I still have tons to do, but I'm sure I'll find a way.

SA Part 3

Saturday was a good day. Taylor, Ruth & I went over to the Shinn's early that morning for breakfast and to visit. After breakfast, we headed back to meme and poppy's house. As soon as we got there, Meg was ready to go swimming...so, we put on our suits and headed for the pool.

Meg and I had the pool to ourselves for about 30-minutes. We had so much fun. Below is a video of her going off the slide. She counts to 7 in one video, then to 9 in the next...not sure why ;) The adorable little dog you see barking and bouncing in and out of the frame is Big Unk and Auntie Ruthie's dog Parker.

That night, the Middletons came back over for dinner and to swim. After the kids swam, we let them light sparklers. They had an absolute blast. We didn't have any accidents - I had a fear that Meg would try to grab the pretty light, but she didn't. Big Unk did a good job explaining to them the dangers of touching it.

I'm so thankful we were able to spend so much time with the Middletons. I really miss them like crazy!

Poor Ace!!!

I interrupt the play back of my visit to SA with this late breaking news...

Back in October 2007, I posted this. It seems to run in the family.

Every night, Ace and I have a ritual that as soon as I climb into bed, he gets in with me for a quick snuggle and some 1-on-1 petting time. As I was petting him, I noticed that his ear was swollen and running a fever. The fever isn't out of the ordinary because he suffers from chronic ear infections, but it's never swelled up like this before. I pointed it out to Jarrad and he said that the swelling would probably go down.

Well, it didn't...not on it's own anyway. I took Ace to the vet first thing this morning and he had to have surgery for hemotoma of the ear. This is a collection of blood under the skin of the ear flap of a dog. It was most likely caused by vigorous head shaking...the vigorous head shaking is a direct result of his chronic ear infections. He's always shaking his head or scratching his ears. It's horrible.

I was able to pick him up a little while ago, so he's home resting.

SA Part 2

Friday, I was able to take the day off and hang out with Meme and Megan. Poppy had to work all day :(

That day for lunch, we were able to meet Big Unk (Taylor) and Paduka for lunch at Longhorn Cafe. They have the best burgers in the world. Right after we had placed our order, my BF from forever (we've know each other since we were 18 months old) called and was able to join us. Lunch was GREAT.
Friday afternoon, we were able to get in a quick swim before nap time. When there isn't an adult in the pool with her, she has to wear her floaties. I don't think she minds ;). Of course, she's only allowed to swim when there is an adult outside. She's very good around the pool...she knows that she's not allowed on the pebbled pool decking unless she has an adult with her. So far, we haven't have any issues with her not following the rules. She makes me so proud.

Friday night, we had a FRY FEST. It was amazing and horrible all at the same time. We had fried onion rings, fried chicken tender, fried shrimp and a salad (the only non-fried option on the menu that night). My BF and her family came over for dinner, along with Grace & Paduka. We had a great night.

The highlight of the evening was Meg dancing. I brought out the iPod radio and played her "dance" music so she could perform for all of us. I've never seem a group of adults so captivated by a 3-year dancing queen. Meg's style is a combination of hip-hop/contemporary. The video quality isn't great because it was so dark, but you get the idea.

Pretty Princesses

Last week, Meg and I drove down to SA to see my family. Since we had so much fun, I'll post in parts...so, without any more delays, here is Part 1.

Meg and I got into San Antonio late on Wednesday night, so it was a very uneventful night. Thursday, I had to work, so Meg got to play with Poppy and Meme for most of the day. I think she had a great time. She got to swim, play outside, swing, and play office in my parent's study while poppy was reading a deposition.

Thursday night, we headed to El Jarro and met Taylor & Ruthie. Meg loves going to El Jarro because she gets to see her "my Paula". And of course, the trip to El Jarro wouldn't be complete without a trip to Party City right next door. She always comes back with horrible crap, but she loves going with "my Paula", so I don't complain too much.

This trip to Party City was very special because she bought mini tiaras and we all had to wear them at the table. Of course, none of us objected.

I will post more about our trip to SA tomorrow.

I love it :)

A few days ago, I introduced you to this. And, let me tell you I'm even more in love today than I was when I made the introduction!!! Look at this picture. I still have to learn the tricks of the camera, but I think for the first experience, it was perfect.

Happy 4th!!! better late than never

This year, we had a fun filled Fourth.

To kick it off, Meg and I went to a parade in Arlington with some of our new friends (Jessica & Haley). Meg and Haley had a blast at the parade. It was a little hot this year, but it's Texas - why did I expect something different ;) When we first got to our "spot", it was in the shade...but by about 10:00 we were no longer in the shade. It was still worth it. Meg really loves the parade.

***Megan at the parade***

After the parade, we came home to take naps. We didn't want to be "grumpy" for the firework show that night at Big League Dreams in Mansfield. This was the first year for Mansfield's firework display at Big League Dreams. It was awesome - 30 minutes of wonderful fireworks. It was like a finale the entire time through. We went with our new friends Michael, Jessica and Haley. The girls had a blast and so did the adults. We'll definitely be going back next year!

I hope everyone had a WONDERFUL 4th this year!

Let me introduce you to...

...my favorite new toy!

I wasn't really in the market for a new digital camera. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't out looking for something new. But, as I was flipping through a scrapbooking magazine, I saw an ad for this camera. IT'S WATERPROOF!!! And, that was all it took. I just had to have it. I couldn't stop thinking about it, I dreamed about it. I read about it. I went to three stores to touch and feel it. Finally, I gave in.

I haven't used it in water yet, but will soon!

Oh how I love my child...

Megan was invited to a b-day party last Saturday and a city park that also has a small water area for the kids to play in. The park is great. I had completely forgotten about it and was glad for the reminder that it's there.

Well, as Meg was running around and playing with her friends, I noticed her doing the universal sign for "I have to pee." (If you're a mom, you know what I'm talking about). So, I asked her "Do you need to go to the bathroom?". Her swift reply was "Nope". And, just like that she had run off to return to playing. Not five minutes later, as I'm talking with a mother I've only just met, I look up to see my sweet, sweet daughter standing with her feet shoulder width apart and slightly bent (I'm sure you know where I'm going with this)...yes, she was peeing in the grass. What was I to do??? She was almost "finished' by the time I caught her. I did have my camera handy, but thought the other mother may think I'm a bit crazy if I took a picture of her. So, after she was finished, I asked her to "clean up". I was able to take a few pictures of that.
