A Quilt for Me!

Last week, I made a quilt for myself.  Jarrad bought me a sewing machine for Christmas and I’ve made a few things (a few baby quilts, some burp cloths, done some appliqué).  I wanted to make me a quilt, and now that I have time on my hands, I sat down and did something for me :)

I love how it turned out.  I’m so proud that I completed it.  This is my first big quilt.  I’m sure I did a lot of things wrong, but I’m happy with the turn out.  Meg wants me to make one for her, so I’m going to start on hers soon.  She wants one just like mine.

She works hard for her money

The week that Meg got her lemonade stand, she set up shop on our driveway.  One day, she came in to tell me that she sold her first two cups of lemonade.  She was so proud, of her first sale.  I asked her how much she made.  I was completely shocked when she told me that they paid $10.  We had to have a quick math lesson.  She’s selling lemonade for $1 per glass…therefore she owed our neighbors $8.  I made her run the change over to their house!

Thankfully, her next customer had correct change.  Jarrad was the last customer of the day, so he got to help close up shop.

Happy Birthday from Boompaw & Nawnaw

Boompaw and Nawnaw came over for dinner to bring Meg her birthday gift.  She was so happy when they pulled up, that she went running to the car.

Meg couldn’t wait to see what Boompaw and Nawnaw got her for her birthday.  She was so excited to see her very first lemonade/snow cone stand.

She sold us lemonade all night.  Jarrad told her that he would bring her a cash box so she would have a place to keep her money.

The night after she got her stand, she went to the driveway to sell her products.  Unfortunately, I had a migraine, so I stayed inside and didn’t get any pictures.  Jarrad was able to go out there with her though.  The poor girl picked a pretty bad night to open up business – she had to close her stand early because it started raining.  All with out a sale.

Congrats Leigh Ann & Eddie

Roller Blade Lessons

On Saturday morning, I took Megan up to the Arlington Skatium for skate lessons.  When I told her about the lessons, she seemed very excited.  Thankfully, the lessons lived up to her expectations.  She loved roller blading so much that after the lesson was over, we stayed at the skating rink for 3 more hours.  All-in-all, we were at the rink from 10:00am until 2:00pm.

I was so excited to see how confident the lessons had made her and how well she did afterwards.  Considering this was only the third time she had her roller blades on, I thought she did amazingly well.  We are planning on going back to lessons next Saturday, and possibly going on Wednesday (it will depend on how she does in school).

Who's that girl?

She loves her roller blades!

Meme and Poppy bought Meg a pair of roller blades for her birthday this year at her request.  Back in February, Meg tried on a pair at Sports Authority and instantly wanted them.  Jarrad and I told her that we would not buy them for her until she learned to ride her bike.  It worked out because she started riding her bike in May, which gave her a few months to get good at that.

While Meme and Poppy were visiting, we took Megan up to Academy to pick out her birthday present.  Meme wanted to make sure that we got her the ones that she wanted.  Meme let her open them at her birthday party on Saturday.

Sunday afternoon, I took Megan and Rebekah around the neighborhood on their roller blades.  Meg’s first outing on her roller blades went well, but she held my hand the whole time.  Monday after school, Meg was super excited to get her roller blades back on and didn’t want my help this time.  She rolled back and forth across the driveway a few times and then she went out to the street.  I was shocked at how much confidence she had gained in just one day.

Of course, she fell a few times, but it’s all part of the process.  I’m sure she’ll fall a lot more over her years.  Thankfully her fall was broken by her protective gear that Meme and Poppy also gave her.

She’s still super excited about roller blading!  This smile says it all.   IMG_4399

Stay tuned for a post about skating lessons :)

Meg’s 6th Birthday Party

Saturday night, we celebrated Meg’s sixth birthday with friends and family.  Meme, Poppy, Big Unk, Auntie Ruthie & Luke all came in from San Antonio to spend the weekend with us and help celebrate.

We blew up the bounce house in the backyard, opened the sand box and the kids had a blast.  For once, I didn’t take tons of pictures – sometimes I feel like I’m missing out because I’m living my life thru my lens.  I did snap some pictures of her opening gifts and blowing out candles.  We served beef and chicken fajitas with bad ass beans and all the fixings.  The night was perfect.

I still can’t believe my baby is SIX!

Birthday weekend

Meme, Poppy, Taylor, Ruth & Luke came to Mansfield this weekend for Meg’s birthday party.  Meme & Poppy came in on late Thursday night.  They didn’t get to Mansfield until after Meg’s bedtime, so when I woke Megan up Friday morning, I told her to go look in the guest room.  She was so surprised both of them.

Poppy, Meme and I ran a few errands to get ready for Meg’s birthday party.  We also went to lunch with Megan.  Meg’s face is beat read in the picture because some genius thinks that recess BEFORE lunch is a good idea.

Ruth, Taylor & Luke got in around 9:00pm Friday night.  We were so excited they were able to make it for the weekend.

Since Meme, Poppy & I ran most of the errands for the birthday party on Friday, we got to do some shopping on Saturday.  Taylor was looking for some Tech gear and we needed to go to the mall to pick up Meg’s birthday cake.  While we were at the mall, we let the kids play in the play area for a little while and they also rode the merry-go-round.

Saturday night was Meg’s party – stay tuned for a post all of it’s own :)

Happy Birthday Jarrad!

We celebrated Jarrad’s birthday at home with steak, mashed potatoes and broccoli.  Meg and I also baked him some cupcakes.  It was a quiet evening at home, just the three of us, but I don’t think Jarrad wanted it any other way.  After dinner, we sang happy birthday to him and made him blow out his candle.  There is only one candle because 35 candles wouldn’t fit on a cupcake ;)

This is GREAT!

A young child walked up to her mother and stared at her hair. As mother scrubbed on the dishes, the girl cleared her throat and sweetly asked; "Why do you have some grey strands in your hair?"

The mother paused and looked at her daughter. "Every time you disobey, I get one strand of grey hair. If you want me to stay pretty, you better obey."

The mother quickly returned to her task of washing dishes. The little girl stood there thinking. She cleared her throat again. "Mother?" She sweetly asked again.
"Yes?" Her Mother replied. "Why is Grandma's hair all grey?"

Fortunately, the only two dogs that don’t get along are Parker and Gunner.  They just avoid each other, so we never have any problems.
